StopWaste needed a brand that embodies a revamped tool ready to deploy to East Bay recycling markets
StopWaste was re-tuning an existing digital tool that enables Alameda County residents to recycle, reuse, and repair anything in their waste stream. They engaged my team in 2020 to provide naming, branding support and UI design to highlight the new features and functionality.
Naming Exercise
We explored a long list of brand names that were friendly and inspired action, that may lend themselves to a mascot or playful execution. Others that were considered represented functionality, conveyed progress, and inspired action. The final choice, “Re:Source” provided a quick callback to the 3 big “re’s” while striking a modern tone and containing a subtle visual hook for the designers to explore with the colon.
Logo Development
A series of potential logo treatments were created by me and the team at MIG, with a focus on maximizing impact on a small header on the web, as well as quick legibility on mobile. Colors were tweaked for a bold, modern look on the final deliverable.
Final Deliverables and Role
The final deliverables for the project were a complete logo kit, UI designs built in Adobe XD, ads, app icon, and widgets. As creative lead on the project, I collaborated with the client and presented our work, managed the design team, executed sketches and ideas, and designed the final layouts.
